In the event that former President Donald Trump decides to run for president in 2024, the Republican National Committee will not cover his legal expenses, Fox News informed.
RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel stated to CNN on Sunday that they were unable to cover the legal costs of any declared candidate. These expenses, then, are a result of the Letitia James case, which was first filed when he was president.
According to reports from The Hill, the RNC admitted last November that they had been covering some of the legal costs associated with legal actions taken against President Trump for political reasons, including investigations by the then-Manhattan District Attorney Cy Vance Jr. and the New York Attorney General Letitia James.
If Trump were to run for reelection in 2024, he would no longer be considered a former president but a contender.
McDaniel stated that at this time, they were unable to provide in-kind contributions to any candidates.
She said that Trump was the former president who was the target of lawsuits coming from all directions and that he had undoubtedly generated more money for the RNC than they had spent on the expenses.
The Trump Organization has been the focus of a criminal investigation by Vance, who claims that the business has been dodging taxes and rewarding top executives for more than 15 years.
Trump’s corporation allegedly lied about the worth of its assets in James’ civil investigation in an effort to obtain tax and insurance benefits.
Although Trump has referred to the investigations as a “witch hunt” with political motivation, he hasn’t necessarily changed his mind about running in 2024.
Axios reported last week that Trump may be considering November 14 as the day to declare his third bid for the presidency and that he will decide on 2024 “very soon.”
