Trump Blasts US Jews, Boasts He Could ‘Easily’ Become Israeli PM

Venting about his apparent lack of popularity among American Jews, former US president Donald Trump appeared to threaten them on Sunday calling them ungrateful in his comments on the social media app Truth Social.

A screenshot of Trump’s post began to circulate on Twitter, where he is banned, in which he said that even Evangelicals are far more appreciative of what he has done for Israel that the people of the Jewish faith, especially those living in the US.

Israeli diplomats also consider Evangelical Christians, which are among the most pro-Israel demographics in the US, a more valuable group to reach out to than Jews.

Complaining that while he’s apparently loved by Israelis, American Jews aren’t as enthused although no US president has done more for Israel than he has, Trump has called US Jews to get their act together and appreciate what they have in Israel before it is too late.

Noting that those living in Israel are a different story, Trump also boasted he could easily be elected prime minister in the Jewish state.

Many people voiced concerns over what they deemed to be an overt expression of antisemitism in Trump’s post with the Anti-Defamation League CEO Jonathan Greenblatt slamming Trump and stressing that they don’t need the former president, who curries favor with extremists and antisemites, to lecture them about the US-Israel relationship.

Calling Trump’s comments insulting and disgusting ‘Jewsplaining’, Greenblatt pointed out that Trump alienated the vast majority of American Jews by empowering white supremacy during his presidency.

The American political journalist Mattew Yglesias pointed out that the former US president has no concept of American Jews as a community that lives and prospers in the United States with an identity and interests that are distinct from the State of Israel’s concerns.

No Republican has won a majority among Jews in the last 100 years and no GOP candidate has gotten more than a third of the Jewish vote since George H.W. Bush took 35% in 1988.

Despite repeatedly invoking his support for Israel and brokering the Abraham Accords which normalized relations between Israel, the UAE, and Bahrain two months earlier, Trump took just 30% of the Jewish vote in November 2020.
