President Biden’s decision to pardon anybody convicted federally of simple marijuana possession just weeks before the election, according to GOP candidate for the Pennsylvania Senate Dr. Mehmet Oz, was a “logical move,” Fox News informed.
Oz’s remarks align with those of his Democratic rival, Lt. Gov. John Fetterman.
According to a poll done by Fox News last month, Fetterman is ahead 45% to 41%.
Oz warned that sending people to prison for using marijuana in a TV interview on Thursday.
Oz stated that he believes marijuana users who are only in jail because of their marijuana use should not be held accountable for their criminal convictions.
Last week, Biden declared he would free those incarcerated in federal facilities for little more than marijuana possession, and he urged governors to free those found guilty of the same crime at the state level.
About 6,500 people who were found guilty of simple marijuana possession in federal court have had their records cleared thanks to Biden’s action.
In the interview, Oz also stated that he is against federal mandatory minimum jail terms, in contrast to Fetterman’s earlier this month comments in which the Democrat stated his support for using the mandatory minimums when it comes to fentanyl dealers.
Oz has accused his rival for taking a too-soft stance against crime.
The Republican who received Trump’s support was also questioned over his opinion of the death penalty for drug dealers, a position that the former president has supported.
In order to grasp a reporter’s queries, Fetterman, who had a stroke in May and has since had difficulty speaking coherently and processing auditory information, has needed closed captioning.
Oz has criticized Fetterman for failing to be open about his health on numerous occasions and has pushed his opponent to produce his medical records.
Oz, a former heart surgeon and talk show host, recently made available his medical records, which included a four-page letter from Dr. Rebecca Kurth in New York City stating that he is in “great condition.”
