DHS Releases Over 300,000 Illegal Migrants with Tracking Devices

The number of migrants released by DHS in the United States with cellphone and GPS monitoring while their immigration applications are being processed was reportedly more than tripled by the Biden administration.

According to the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS), as of Sept. 24, the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) had 316,700 illegal migrants enrolled in what is known as “Alternatives to Detention (ADT),” a program that sets loose into the US illegal aliens who are then monitored via phones and tracking devices.

That is up 266% from when Biden took office in January 2021.

Per Syracuse University’s Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse (TRAC), which obtains data through Freedom of Information Act requests, the program uses facial recognition applications, GPS monitoring, and telephonic reporting.

TRAC’s data showed that the number of aliens enrolled in the ATD program had never topped 200,000 until last March and it didn’t exceed 300,000 until last month.

It’s more than evident that the Bide administration has vastly expanded the $2.2 billion a year program billed as a way to ensure that migrants show up in court for a hearing of their immigration cases and free up detention space at the same time.

According to DHS figures, the technology used to track migrants in the ATD program, costs taxpayers, on average, more than $361,000 a day.

Back in June, the department announced an additional, pilot- ATD initiative, to provide not-for-profit groups and local governments with funding to offer migrants additional services such as mental health care, a cultural and legal orientation.

ATD participants covered with the pilot program who end up being deported to their home countries would be provided departure planning and reintegration services

According to the Government Accountability Office’s (GAO) report issued last June, close to a quarter of the applicants who are removed from ATD flee from ICE rather than showing up for their court hearings and likely getting deported.

On the other hand, DHS hasn’t provided complete data on the number of immigrants who can’t be located after absconding from the system.
