Ukraine is Dependent on the US, Ukraine’s Zelensky Admits

Without the continued financial and military help from the United States, Ukraine could face defeat in its military conflict with Russia, Ukraine’s President Vladimir Zelensky has said in his interview with CNN’s Fareed Zakaria.

Responding to a question about how internal American politics could affect his country, Zelensky expressed his gratitude for President Joe Biden, the White House, and the bipartisan support and hope that bipartisan support will remain strong and steadfast.

He also stressed that without this support from the US, the Ukrainian army will not be able to return their lands occupied by Russia.

Commenting on Zakaria’s claim that a GOP victory in the November midterms would result in less American support for Ukraine, Zelensky underscored that Russia could win the war if the West stops sending Kyiv weapons and money.

He also expressed readiness to address the US taxpayers in defense of US aid so they can rest assured their money is being used by Washington to defend Western values.

Since the 2014 Maidan coup in Ukraine, the US has funneled more than $30 billion in military aid to Ukraine, $17 billion of which came after Russia invaded Ukraine and escalated the hostilities in February.

Biden administration announced last week another aid batch of ammunition and weapons valued at $675 million.

According to Senator Mark Warner of Virginia who chairs the Senate Intelligence Committee, the US intelligence agencies, along with its UK counterparts, are also feeding Kyiv with intelligence, in addition to weapons, ammunition, and cash to fill Ukraine’s budget.

Warner stressed that such collaboration shows the strength of their combined military intel Ukrainians included in planning the last week’s offensive in Kharkiv Region.

Kyiv’s stepped-up intelligence-sharing with the US gained it more support and better and more relevant information about Russian weaknesses in the preparation for its counteroffensive against the Russian forces.
