As more migrants arrived in Chicago from Texas, Chicago Democrat Mayor Lori Lightfoot once again blasted GOP Texas Gov. Greg Abbott on Sunday, accusing him of manufacturing a human crisis and using migrants as human pawns.
After the first two buses of migrants arrived in the Windy City on Wednesday, another 50 migrants were bussed on Sunday with Abbott stressing he will continue to bus migrants to all sanctuary cities.
Abbott demands that the federal government secures the southern border, Biden’s open border policies of the migrant crisis that is overwhelming border communities in Texas.
In her address Sunday afternoon, Lightfoot said she has no problems with the migrants, welcoming them as new residents, but with Abbott bussing the migrants to her city without any coordination and cooperation, which she called unacceptable.
Calling Chicago a welcoming city, she emphasized that they’re always going to step up and do the right thing to make sure that migrants coming into the city are well received and supported.
Noting that the city would help the newly arrived migrants find shelter, work, and schools, Lightfoot also announced the launching of a donation page for the migrants that ask for necessities like clothes, shoes, diapers, and blankets.
The page has also issued a call for willing participants to sign up to be a volunteer and to help with donations.
It seems, however, that not everyone in Chicago is pleased with Lightfoot’s overzealous efforts after Raymond Lopez, Chicago Alderman, appeared quite displeased with her intense focus on the illegal immigrants being sent to Chicago.
Lopez pointed out in a tweet referencing the donation page that the victims of Chicago gang violence get nothing but silence from the mayor, using cricket bug emojis to imply that.
Noting that Mayor Lightfoot loves to tout the responsibility of Chicago to welcome all regardless of legal status, Lopez underscored he’d like to see that responsibility in action at a time when Chicago residents have been dealing with a spike in violent crime across the city.
