Abbott Blasted by Chicago Mayor After Sending Migrant Buses

Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott faced harsh criticism on Thursday afternoon from Democrat Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot who slammed him as a man without any morals for sending buses full of migrants to her city.

Lightfoot said that Abbott is confirming with these continued political stunts that he is a man without any morals, humanity, or shame for loading the migrants onto buses and sending them to Chicago without any regard for what the next steps are.

She called Gov. Abbott’s practices of expulsion racist and xenophobic as well as unpatriotic, stressing that migrants are not cargo but are as much human beings as everyone else and deserve respect and dignity.

The Chicago mayor also accused the bus company contracted by Texas to make the trip to Chicago of a complicit in this indignity.

Responding to inhumanity accusations, the chief of media and communications at the Texas Division of Emergency Management, Seth Christensen, stressed that migrants were provided with food, water, and security and were on a bus with air conditioning.

Abbott’s press secretary Renea Eze also responded to Lightfoot, calling her an absolute hypocrite, and telling her to stop complaining and call on President Biden to take immediate action to secure the border if she wants a solution to the humanitarian crisis.

Abbott sent two buses carrying over 75 migrants – many from Venezuela – who crossed the southern border illegally to Chicago on Wednesday evening, stressing that in response to Biden’s open border policies that are overwhelming border communities in Texas, Chicago is now joining New York City and Washington, D.C. as “drop-off location” for future migrant buses.

Texas Governor accused Biden of putting the lives of Texans and Americans at risk and overwhelming the communities by continuing his inaction at the southern border before pointing out that Mayor Lightfoot now has an opportunity to act upon her words and offer Chicago’s resources as a sanctuary city to host the migrants.

Just as a reminder, the Chicago mayor was previously touting the responsibility of her city to welcome all, regardless of legal status.
