A rising Republican star from Florida named Rep. Byron Donalds is considering running for chairman of the House Republican Conference, Fox News informed.
In an interview with Fox News Digital at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Texas, Donalds, a first-term lawmaker, disclosed that he was considering running for the position.
Donalds stated he has not made up his mind on the contest and is instead focused on assisting Republicans in regaining the majority in this November.
Since Donalds was elected to Congress in 2020, he has attracted a lot of attention.
Donalds, a former state lawmaker from Florida, has established himself as a successful national Republican fundraiser.
The politician has raised more than $4.5 million in only the last 18 months.
Donalds is seen as a powerful Republican spokesperson, particularly when it comes to education.
The Florida lawmaker told Fox News Digital that extending school choice and regaining parental control over education would be the Republican majority’s top priorities.
Elise Stefanik, a Republican representative from New York, is the current chair of the House Republican Conference, but it is unclear if she intends to continue in that role or step down.
If elected, Donalds would hold the top position within House GOP leadership for an African American in almost 20 years.
