Only Cops Should Have Guns, Philadelphia Democrat Mayor Says

After a shooting that injured two police officers near July 4 event on Monday night, Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney ripped the Second Amendment, stressing that the United States Supreme Court is too lenient when it came to gun rights.

Noting that he’s looking forward to retiring so he no longer has to deal with gun violence, Kenney underscored that only police officers should be allowed to own guns.

Standing alongside Philadelphia Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw outside the hospital where the wounded police officers were treated for gunshot injuries, Kenney said that up until the tragic shooting, Philadelphians were enjoying Monday’s festivities.

Philadelphia Mayor said that gun violence did not once cross his mind two weeks ago while he was in Canada, where the people who have guns were police officers, while in the US they have the Second Amendment and the Supreme Court telling everybody they can carry a gun wherever they want.

He noted that the Canadian situation is never going to happen in the United States in his lifetime, describing the gun violence as a plague on his city that keeps him in constant fear that shootings might occur at large events.

Kenney also noted that if he had the authority to do so, he would unilaterally strip citizens of the right to own firearms, calling the US a gun country that at the same time is one of the least safe.

Asked if he’s concerned that large social gatherings or sports events could be subject to gun violence, the mayor responded by saying that he does not enjoy any large event such as the Fourth of July or the Democratic National Convention since he’s constantly waiting for something bad to happen.
