Copenhagen Shooting Shocks Denmark

A man has been charged with murder after a mass shooting in Copenhagen. A 22-year-old man is suspected of killing three and injuring many more after opening fire in a shopping center in the danish capital.

Two danish citizens, both 17, and a 47-year-old Russian citizen were killed in the attack Sunday.

Police said the suspect had mental health issues and that there is no indication of it being motivated by terror or terrorism. The man carried a rifle and a knife. Authorities say the shooting was random, as in, not motivated by gender or race.

Four people were seriously wounded, two Danes and two Swedes. Another 20 were wounded as they tried to flee.

The shooting was a massive shock to Denmark. Many Danes said that while they have heard reports of shootings in other countries, specifically America, they never thought it would happen there.

Gun violence is extremely rare in Denmark. Mass shootings are almost unheard of.

The attack took place only a few days after an attack in Oslo Norway at a gay bar. In that attack, it was identified to be an Islamist terror attacker.
