Homeland Security Secretary Warns Border Number Could Increase Even Higher

Alejandro Mayorkas

In a new video, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas warns that already historic border numbers are set to increase even higher while advising migrants considering coming to the United States not to, Fox News informed.

Mayorkas made an appearance in the video, which was released just days after a Louisiana district court has blocked the Biden administration from halting border sackings under the Title 42 public health order, which has seen most of the migrants deported since March 2020 due to the pandemic with COVID-19.

The number of interactions at the border had been high, with over 234,000 in April alone, ahead of the anticipated expiration of the order.

However, Mayorkas stated that nothing would change following the administration’s court defeat.

Mayorkas said that the constraints at the Southwest border have not changed, adding that migrants may still be deported if they had failed to establish an asylum claim under Title 42.

Mayorkas admitted that Border Patrol is coping with “historically high numbers.” but the reason for that was that people were

People “fleeing violence, injustice, poverty, climate change, and other challenges,” he said.

Migrants are being incentivized by the Biden administration’s “catch-and-release” tactics, according to Republicans and former officials.

DHS let 118,000 migrants into the United States in April, compared to 113,000 migrants removed.

Mayorkas also said that the numbers could increase even higher.

Mayorkas referenced the Department of Homeland Security’s plan to deal with the migrant influx, which includes increasing resources and reinstituting crossing penalties, as well as cooperating with other nations to stem the flow.

He had a message for migrants considering the journey: the United States’ borders “are not open.”

Mayorkas clarified that migrants should not cross the border and put their lives at danger only to be deported.

The remark was similar to one made by Vice President Kamala Harris in Guatemala last year.
