GOP Slammed Homeland Security Secretary for ‘Domestic Terrorism’ Narrative

Alejandro Mayorkas

Republicans have been outraged by Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas’ inability to identify a single case of domestic terrorism that his department has forwarded to the Department of Justice for prosecution, and their calls for Mayorkas to quit or be impeached have become louder, Fox News informed.

Mayorkas maintained his judgment that “domestic violent extremism constitutes the biggest terrorism-related threat to the homeland” during testimony before the House Judiciary Committee on Thursday.

Rep. Greg Steube, R-Fla., questioned Mayorkas for information on any domestic terrorist referrals he had made to the Justice Department. Mayorkas declined to release any, stating that he would do so after the hearing.

Steube told Fox News Digital that he hasn’t received an answer from DHS and is skeptical that he will.

Following the heated argument, Republicans accused the Biden administration of exaggerating or even creating the threat of domestic terrorism in order to divert attention away from the true issue: the unprecedented number of migrants crossing the border.

If the GOP retakes Congress, Steube supports Mayorkas’ impeachment.

Domestic terrorism criminal referrals statistics and more information on the DHS conclusion that domestic terrorism is a larger danger to the nation than the surge of immigrants at the border were not provided to Fox News Digital in response to requests for comment.

In FY 2021, there were more than 1.7 million migrant interactions, and FY 2022 is on track to surpass that, with more than 1 million encounters projected in the first 6 months of the fiscal year only. At least 23 persons were on the terrorist watchlist when they crossed the southern border in 2021.

Speaking of Mayorkas’ domestic terrorism charges, Republican representative Lauren Boebert, from Colorado, said that Democrats are totally gaslighting the American people, adding that she believes that the greatest threat comes on the southern border and the current invasion.

Boebert supports impeachment and wrote legislation on Friday to defund another Mayorkas proposal, the “Disinformation Governance Board,” which aims to combat misinformation.
