Senator Elizabeth Warren said on Sunday that if President Joe Biden stands for re-election in 2024, as he has stated, she will support him, The Hill reported.
Biden’s poor approval ratings in addition to his age, have prompted constant speculation about whether he will seek re-election. In November, the president will turn 80 years old.
“You can ask it any way you want, but I’m going to say the same thing: President Biden is running in 2024 and I’m supporting him,” Senator Warren told NBC’s “Meet The Press” guest host Kristen Welker on Sunday, The Hill quotes her as saying.
Senator Warren campaigned against Biden in the crowded 2020 Democratic presidential primary, but pulled out and ended up backing him.
If Biden runs for president again, he has stated that he would be “extremely lucky” to face former President Donald Trump.
He’s also stated that if he’s in excellent health, he’ll run again. According to The Hill, Biden promised former President Barack Obama, for whom he served as vice president, that he would campaign in 2024.
If Biden is re-elected, he will be 82 years old at the start of his second term.
