Biden Takes Dig at Republicans, Calls it ‘The MAGA Party’

During his Earth Day speech on Friday, US President Joe Biden called the Republican opposition the “MAGA party,” referring to the infamous slogan used by former President Donald Trump “Make America Great Again.”

During statements in Seattle, Biden took a dig at the party saying, “This ain’t your father’s Republican Party,” referring to the problem he has in gaining Republican support in Congress for his climate change and other priorities.

“All you got to do is look at what’s being played this morning, about the tape that was released,” Reuters quoted Biden as saying, not disclosing more detail.

Biden was alluding to an audiotape released this week that revealed Kevin McCarthy, the leading Republican in the House of Representatives, stating that then-President and Republican, Donald Trump ought to hand over his resignation due to the riot in the US Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

McCarthy publicly darted at Trump’s accountability for the unrest on Jan. 6, stating the previous president has some responsibility for the rioting and then paying him a visit at his Mar-a-Lago club in Florida.

“All kidding aside, this is a MAGA party now,” Biden added.

Republicans who oppose Trump risk provoking his wrath or that of his fans, as well as losing their seats in a primary election to a challenger.
