According to White House press secretary Jen Psaki, the appointment of a new General known as the “Butcher of Syria” by the Russian President Vladimir Putin’s to supervise Ukraine’s invasion is a decision that demonstrates to the Biden administration exactly what to expect while Moscow’s bloody invasion continues, Fox News informed.
Putin’s choice for the next commander to lead operations in Ukraine is said to be General Alexander Dvornikov, the commander of Russia’s southern military district (SMD). According to US sources, the 60-year-old general has a history of violence towards civilians in Syria and other combat zones.
Psaki spoke on “Fox News Sunday” to discuss what Dvornikov’s alleged nomination could entail as global alarm over the killings in Ukraine grows.
Psaki stated that the changed leadership in the military only shows that there will be more of what we have already seen so far, especially by putting someone famous for committing atrocities in Syria.
Dvornikov rose to fame as the commander of Russian soldiers dispatched to Syria in 2015 to support President Bashar Assad’s administration in the midst of the country’s destabilizing civil conflict.
Russian officials seldom confirm such positions and have said nothing about Dvornikov’s new role since President Vladimir Putin awarded him the Hero of Russia medal, one of the country’s highest honors, in 2016.
The purported new military command comes as Russia prepares for what is anticipated to be a significant and more focused effort to increase Russian control in the Donbas region following its failure to take Kyiv, Ukraine’s capital. It also comes after the Russian leadership’s unusual public acknowledgement of significant military losses.
Psaki also said that the Russian leadership rarely admits defeat or any elements of it but it is a fact that Ukrainians have basically succeeded to hold on to Kyiv.
Furthermore, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has urged the West to provide more military and political support.
Psaki stated that the US is still reviewing all of Ukraine’s requests and is working with partners to accommodate the needs of the country.
