THE CORPORATE WARRIOR
By James Farwell
Wondering how Steve Jobs defied market research to run a Super Bowl ad that turned Apple around? Or how Michael Jordan helped Nike use a hero-villain theme in its inspiring ads? Wonder how some college kids used their savings and imagination to grow start-up companies into billion dollar “unicorn” successes? Or the truth behind the EAGLE CLAW failed rescue mission of our hostages in Iran? In THE CORPORATE WARRIOR, author James Farwell interviewed Gen. David Petreaus and Adm. Jim Stavridis and many flag officers, and applies military strategy to the business world. A great read, order on Amazon: https://amzn.to/3rvVRYt
NEW YORK: GOVERNOR 2022
Among primary voters statewide
Democratic Primary (without Cuomo)
Gov. Kathy Hochul: 42%
Jumaane Williams: 10%
Tom Suozzi: 7%
Paul Nuchols: 5%
Others: 9%
Undecided: 27%
Democratic Primary (with Cuomo)
Gov. Kathy Hochul: 37%
Andrew Cuomo: 33%
Jumaane Williams: 4%
Tom Suozzi: 7%
Others: 9%
Undecided: 9%
RON’S COMMENT: Incumbent Hochul easily leads the New York Democratic primary without Cuomo in the race. But with Cuomo in the mix, her lead dwindles to only 4 points. Cuomo’s strength is among Black voters. Cuomo has been making noises about running again…. In a hypothetical AG primary, incumbent Letitia James beats Cuomo 45-33…. Note that Cuomo gets 33% in both the gubernatorial and AG primaries.
Republican primary
Lee Zeldin: 27%
Andrew Giuliani: 17%
Rob Astorino: 11%
Others: 22%
Undecided: 23%
RON’S COMMENT: Zeldin is a congressman who represents most of Suffolk County (including the Hamptons) and a Trump ally; he also has the Conservative Party line…. Giuliani is the son of the former mayor of NYC and worked in the Trump administration…. Astorino is a former Westchester County executive.
UKRAINE POLICIES
Among adults nationwide
For each of the following actions the United States could take in response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, please tell me if you strongly agree, mostly agree, mostly disagree, or strongly disagree.
% = Agree / Disagree
- Allow Ukrainian refugees to resettle in the U.S.: 77%/20%
- Provide U.S. weapons to Ukrainian fighters: 72%/23%
- Enforce a no-fly zone over Ukraine by shooting down Russian planes: 40%/52%
- Send U.S. armed forces into Ukraine to fight Russian soldiers: 24%/70%
RON’S COMMENT: In this Selzer national poll, Americans oppose sending U.S. troops to Ukraine and also oppose enforcing a no-fly zone. A different poll, from Fox News, asks voters about “creating a no-fly zone over Ukraine by using U.S. planes to forcibly keep out Russian aircraft” and finds 52% favor/42% oppose.
KETANJI BROWN JACKSON CONFIRMATION
Among voters nationwide
As you may know, Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson has been nominated to the Supreme Court. When the Senate votes on Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson’s nomination to the Supreme Court, do you think the Senate should vote to confirm her as a Supreme Court justice, or not?
- Should vote to confirm: 47%
- Should vote NOT to confirm: 19%
- Don’t know: 34%
RON’S COMMENT: 23% of Republicans, 75% of Democrats and 39% of independents would vote to confirm Brown Jackson. This poll was completed before the Senate hearings.
BIDEN HANDLING OF ISSUES
Among adults nationwide
Do you approve or disapprove of the way Joe Biden is handling:
% = Approve/Disapprove
- The COVID-19 pandemic: 47%/44%
- The economy: 31%/57%
- The Russian invasion of Ukraine: 37%/48%
RON’S COMMENT: As you can see in this Selzer national poll, the economy is dragging down Biden’s ratings and his handling of the Ukraine situation is not helping, either. Only his handling of the pandemic is net-positive…. Also:
- A new Fox News poll shows Biden’s approval and disapproval ratings are both higher than the Selzer poll on these three issues: 50%/48% on the pandemic, 38%/59% on the economy and 38%/59% on Russia.
- The Fox News poll also finds Biden doing poorly on inflation (31%/66) and border security (37%/58%), as do other polls.
- Should be noted: The Selzer results are based on a sample of adultsand the Fox News results are based on a sample of registered voters.
EXPECTATIONS FOR ECONOMY
Among adults nationwide
As you think about the next 12 months, do you expect the overall strength of the U.S. economy to be better or worse as compared to the way you see it now?
- Better: 27%
- Worse: 58%
- About the same: 9%
RON’S COMMENT: Economic pessimism is a big reality. The “better” percentage is down 9 points since October 2021 and down 20 points from a year ago…. Currently, 10% of Republicans, 49% of Democrats and 23% of independents say they expect the economy to be “better” over the next 12 months…. As we’ve said before, inflation is the millstone around the Democrats’ neck for the 2022 elections.
SCHOOLS: POLICIES, VALUES
Among adults nationwide

- Teach students to be independent thinkers: 69%/27%
- Teach students to respect authority: 52%/37%

% = Essential / Important but not essential

- American history: 67%/29%
