For many young pupils, Florida lawmakers recently enacted a Republican-backed measure limiting school discussion of sexual orientation and gender identity.
The bill has sparked a nationwide debate in the midst of a growing party divide over what children should learn about race and gender in schools.
According to an article by Axios, Bob Chapek, the CEO of Walt Disney Co., is another CEO who has expressed dissatisfaction with the LGBTQ law.
A Texas court recently granted an injunction prohibiting the state from probing the parents of a 16-year-old transgender girl for giving her with gender-affirming medical treatments, which has sparked corporate anxiety about LGBTQ rights.
Governor Greg Abbott has called the therapies “child abuse,” and the state has filed an appeal against the judge’s decision.
Axios added that on top of Apple CEO Cook and Disney CEO Chapek’s open dissatisfaction, more than 60 organizations, including Alphabet Inc’s Google, Microsoft Corp, Meta Platforms Inc, and Apple, have signed an ad against comparing gender-affirming therapy with child abuse.
Reuters reported that requests for comment from Google, Microsoft, Apple, and Meta were not immediately returned.
