Russia would be halting the delivery of rocket engines to the US, Dmitry Rogozin, director-general of Roscosmos, announced on Thursday saying “let them fly into space on their brooms”.
Pointing that Moscow will also be ending cooperation with the US on experiments on the ISS, Rogozin added that Russia will adjust its space program’s priority to focus on satellites for defense interests.
In a letter to the administrator of the German Aerospace Center (DLR), Anke Kaysser-Pyzalla, Rogozin announced as well that Roscosmos would be freezing cooperation with the DLR, which announced on Thursday it would not start any new projects or initiatives with Russian institutions since it’s terminating all collaboration activities with them.
Condemning the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Germany’s Alliance of Science Organisations also announced last week it would immediately freeze cooperation with Russian universities and businesses until further notice.
Rogozin wrote that established long-term cooperation ties would be irreparably damaged and the activities in the field of outer space exploration for peaceful purposes will be significantly slowed down due to the termination of cooperation with the Russian Federation in the field of higher education, scientific research, and professional training announced by Germany’s leadership.
Meanwhile, as the British government explained, in light of Russia’s illegal and unprovoked invasion of Ukraine British satellite company OneWeb will suspend all launches from Russia’s Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.
It also announced that Britain will be reviewing its participation in all further projects involving Russian collaboration.
This happens after Russian space agency demanded guarantees that its spacecraft would not be used for military purposes. One of the Soyuz rockets carrying 36 OneWeb satellites was scheduled to launch from Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.
