The former chairman of the Republican National Committee penned an open letter to the current RNC Chairwoman saying that the committee will regret its censorship of two GOP representatives.
Marc Racicot, a former Montana governor, and the ex-RNC chairman wrote to Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel warning that she will regret the RNC censure of Rep. Liz Cheney and Rep. Adam Kinzinger for their participation in the ongoing House select committee investigation into the violent Jan. 6, 2021 insurrection on the Capitol.
Racicot’s open letter was published in the Billings Gazette, the largest newspaper in his state of Montana. The majority of McDaniel’s career has been in Michigan, where she was previously the chair of the Michigan Republican Party from 2015 to 2017.
In his letter, Racicot said that he never imagined that the committee he once chaired would “rebuke and desert” two of its own members for performing their assigned duties in Congress with honor and integrity.
Earlier this month, the RNC voted to formally censure Cheney and Kinzinger. They are the only two Republicans who are sitting on the panel investigating the Jan. 6 riot. In the censure resolution, the RNC accused the two representatives of taking part in the “persecution of ordinary citizens engaging in legitimate political discourse” because they sit on the committee.
McDaniel was an early supporter of former President Trump and has been known for her staunch support and fundraising for Trump since taking over as RNC chair in 2017. She had the RNC run ads for Trump’s 2020 campaign beginning in 2018 and added many of Trump’s campaign workers and allies onto the RNC payroll.
Under her leadership, the RNC has also covered Trump’s legal fees in the Russian interference investigation, hosted Trump’s “Fake News Awards,” spent considerable party funds at his businesses and properties, and has criticized Trump critics existing within the Republican party. McDaniel and the RNC under her leadership have also made numerous disproven claims of voter fraud and even attempted to overturn Biden’s victory.
The censure of the two Republicans has characterized the mob mentality of the RNC, experts have said.
Racicot urged McDaniel and the RNC to be aware of the “Great Middle of America,” which is organized based on interests and is seeking to return to timeless and enduring values.
