House Republicans intend to use their majority in Congress to fight back against Mayor Muriel Bowser of Washington, D.C., whose policies they claim are harming citizens of the nation’s capital, Fox News informed.

Daily Caller reported on Friday that Kevin McCarthy, the House Minority Leader, and James Comer, the House Oversight Committee Ranking Member will use their congressional power over the local DC affairs to look into issues and possibly make improvements if Republicans take control of the House in November.

Comer stated that the DC is in a bad position because Democrats imposed some very reckless policies. He also said that the Republicans from the Oversight Committee contacted the DC Mayor in order to tackle the surge of violent crimes and homeless people, as well so pull her vaccine passport policy which is very unfair. The mayor reclined their offer.

Comer pointed out that after the GOP retakes power in the next election, they will use all measures to hold the DC mayor responsible for adopting these policies which work against the American capital.

McCarthy reiterated a similar sentiment, claiming that Bowser had not done enough to tackle violence in the District of Columbia.

Additionally, House Oversight Committee Republican Andrew Clyde of Georgia informed Daily Caller that he is planning to introduce a bill repealing the 1973 District of Columbia Home Rule Act, which could put the federal government in an authoritative position over the district.

A request for comment from Fox News was not immediately returned by Mayor Bowser’s office.

In 2021, Washington, D.C. faced unprecedented levels of violence, including an increase in killings and a large increase in carjackings, which had tripled since 2019.
