Former President Donald Trump may have flushed documents that should have been preserved and archived, potentially flushing along with them his hopes of running again in 2024.

The saga of the Trump administration documents continues to unfold and worsen. Earlier this week, the National Archives and Records Administration called upon the U.S. Department of Justice to investigate the handling of White House records by Trump.

A House Oversight Panel has launched the probe into how 15 boxes of records were recovered from his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida. Trump was supposed to turn his records over to the National Archive at the end of his presidential term, but it is now suspected he removed these 15 boxes and took them to Florida, and destroyed some of them.

The National Archives reportedly found classified information in the boxes of paperwork. Originally, momentous of communication with foreign leaders were thought to be in the boxes.

Calls are growing for the Justice Department to investigate whether Trump and his team ripped up and flushed documents that were supposed to be returned to the National Archives. It has not yet been announced if the Justice Department will pursue the investigation.

A new book called ‘Confidence Man’ about the Trump White House years, written by New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman, includes a story of Trump himself clogging a White House documents.

There is a federal statute that imposes criminal penalties for concealing, removing, or damaging federal records.

Former federal prosecutor Glenn Kirschner said that Trump needs to be even more worried than he is. Kirschner said that anyone convicted of violating the federal statute is barred from ever holding federal office again.

This means that if Trump is found to have hidden classified documents and destroyed them, he might not be able to run in the 2024 elections.

The Trump toilet papers may have flushed his hopes of becoming president again.
