UK Boris Johnson Accused of Corruption

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson can’t get out of the hot seat. The UK leader has been accused of corruption following news that he sought funds from a Conservative donor for his own personal flat refurbishments by promising to consider plans for some kind of “great exhibition.”

The latest revelations have stemmed from the leader being questioned for conversations that he had via WhatsApp with his own Conservative party members.

Johnson sought more than a whopping one hundred thousand pounds in funds for his personal flat refurbishment from a donor for his Tory party, Lord David Brownlow, while promising to consider plans for a “great exhibition.” The newly revealed messages that were communicated via WhatsApp show that Johnson called his own flat a “tip.”

Johnson showed his Tory fellow his residence at Downing Street, directly asking for “approvals” so that the designer could “get on with it” back in November 2020.

Johnson signed the message off by saying to Brownlow that he was on the “great exhibition plan” and that he “will revert.”. Brownlow indicated that he would get the flat sorted, thanking Boris for considering this exhibition.

What was the first Great Exhibition? It was held in Hyde Park in 1851. Fast forward to January 2021, when Brownlow met the Culture Secretary, Oliver Dowden. The tory pair discussed plans within the Royal Albert Hall, where the donor is a trustee member.

Deputy Labour leader Angela Rayner said it appeared Brownlow had access to Johnson and Dowden “because he was paying” for the refurbishments.

Following the messages being made public, Johnson has been asked to make a public apology for his messages, especially since they never saw the light of an independent ethics committee. Johnson has apologized, specifically to his own ethics adviser, clearing the prime minister of wrongdoing by his own adviser.

The actual fallout from messaging Brownlow directly is yet to be seen.
