President Joe Biden will address Americans on Thursday, stating that his predecessor, Donald Trump, bears “sole responsibility” for the fatal Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, according to the White House, Reuters reports.

President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, both Democrats, will speak at the United States Capitol on Thursday morning, one year after a group of Trump-supporting rioters raided the building in an unsuccessful effort to curb the authorization of Electoral College votes that officially presented Biden’s electoral win.

Even as the Republican former president keeps spreading lies about his election loss, Democrats, historians, and civil rights activists have grown increasingly concerned about the future of the nearly 250-year-old representative democracy, Biden and his top aides have been hesitant to speak directly about Trump since the former senator took office last January.

After months of asking Americans to unite against the coronavirus epidemic and to rebuild together after natural catastrophes, Biden delivered his address on Thursday.

On Thursday, Joe Biden will outline the relevance of what took place in the Capitol, as well as President Trump’s sole responsibility for the disarray and barbarity that was witnessed, said White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki, adding that he will keep up the pressure on the former president’s lies, which he propagated in an attempt to deceive the American people and his own followers.

Trump canceled a media briefing set for Thursday evening at his Mar-a-Lago home in Florida, blaming what he termed the “bias and dishonesty” of the House of Representatives investigation into the assaults and the news media, his favorite target.

A Trump spokesman, Taylor Budowich, called Biden’s decision to spend January 6th “trying to further divide our nation” “unsurprising,” adding that “division is the only thing Democrats know how to do.”

On the day of the incident, four individuals died, and one Capitol police officer died the next day while guarding Congress. During the multi-hour attack by Trump supporters, dozens of cops were hurt, and four officers have subsequently committed suicide.
