Russian Expert Believes WHO Will Recognize Sputnik Jab in 2022

Russian vaccines against the virus causing the COVID-19 will most likely be recognized by the World Health Organization in 2022, the president of the Russian Academy of Sciences Alexander Sergeev said on Wednesday as quoted by Russian media.

Sergeev pointed he’s one hundred percent sure the vaccines’ authorization by international regulators, including the WHO, will happen in the course of the year.

At the same time, he stressed that the whole process is a two-way street, pointing to WHO’s concerns with regard to the production of the Russian vaccines that Sergeev also agrees with.

WHO, namely, is worried that Russian COVID vaccines produced at different enterprises are not exactly the same and demanded the whole process to be standardized since all stages of the jab production require appropriate control.

At the same time, as Sergeev pointed, foreign companies are intentionally making it harder for Russian vaccines to be authorized all over the world in order to promote their own interests.

WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus discussed the potential Sputnik V vaccine’s approval with the Russian FM Sergey Lavrov in late December, addressing at the same time the need for mutual recognition of COVID-19 vaccination certificates.

They also discussed how to improve the efficiency of the global preparedness and response system to health emergencies in which WHO would have the central coordinating role as well as the international cooperation issues in overcoming the consequences of the pandemic.
