Due to harsh winter weather, a 70-mile stretch of Interstate 80 in California has been closed, with experts issuing a Winter Storm Warning and prompting that travel might be difficult over the next few days, The Hill reported.

Due to minimal visibility, a segment of I-80 from Colfax, Calif., to the border of Nevada has been blocked, according to the California Department of Transportation.

A winter storm warning has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) office in Sacramento, California, for alpine and foothill traveling through Tuesday. The Sacramento Valley, western Plumas County, Lassen Volcanic National Park, and the northern Sierra Nevada range are among the places covered by the weather alert.

According to the NWS, a Winter Storm Warning for snow implies that roadways will be coated with snow and visibility will be reduced. While the warning is in place, it is not suggested that people travel.

If they must travel, drivers are advised to carry a spare flashlight, food, and drink in their vehicle in case of an emergency.

The National Weather Service, snow accumulations of 1 to 3 feet are forecast, with some isolated regions receiving up to 5 feet. The harshest weather is forecast to occur between Sunday evening and Monday morning.
