According to the Associated Press, a man from Minnesota was given a year-long jail sentence after assaulting a Menards employee over a mask rule, The Hill reported.
After disagreeing with the business’s mask rule, Luke Oeltjenbruns is accused of beating the lumber store employee many times in the head with a piece of timber.
According to a Minneapolis Star Tribune article, authorities subsequently saw Oeltjenbruns sitting by himself in his pickup truck in the parking lot of a different business.
Officer Steven Sickmann went up on the vehicle’s footboard and reached through the window during the slow-speed chase.
The filed complaint read that Oeltjenbruns then shut the window on Sickmann’s arm and drove away, smashing into police cars.
According to the Star Tribune, as Sickmann reached for a hammer to get free, Oeltjenbruns grabbed the hammer and struck the law enforcement officer in the head.
According to the Associated Press, Oeltjenbruns’ wife, Robbie Lynn Oeltjenbruns, stated during his sentence that her husband has been diagnosed with anxiety, depression, and PTSD as a result of his military service.
In the event, Luke Oeltjenbruns pled guilty to counts of first- and second-degree assault.
He will also spend ten years of probation upon his release from jail, during which time he needs to complete community service, attend a treatment program, and send letters of apologies to the victims, according to the Associated Press.
