Former President Donald Trump’s own fans booed him this week after he made a surprising announcement that he has received a Covid vaccine and booster shot.

Trump is currently on the final leg of the short “History Tour,” touring alongside the disgraced former Fox News host Bill O’Reilly. The two controversial men visited five locations in Florida and Texas.

In Dallas, Texas, at the American Airlines Centre, Trump rambled about the vaccinations and told his followers to take credit for the vaccine. The crowd consisted mostly of unmasked people.

O’Reilly asked Trump if he had received his booster shot, to which Trump replied “yes.” O’Reilly said, “I got it too.” The crowd reacted with a rather hostile response, booing and jeering.

This was not the first time that Trump got a negative response from supporters after admitting to having received a Covid vaccination. In October, Trump revealed he had received the Pfizer vaccination during an interview with Yahoo Finance. The video was posted online, and it did not do well with his supporters.

Trump very rarely discusses his own vaccination status and declines to encourage his followers to receive a vaccination.

Many in the conservative far-right have taken an anti-vaccination stance, as well as an anti-mask stance.

Unvaccinated people have 10 times greater risk of getting Covid, and a 20 times greater risk of dying from the disease, compared to vaccinated people who have a booster shot.

Now that many Americans have gotten a booster shot, the latest CDC data suggests that the gap in risks between those with vaccinations and boosters, and those completely unvaccinated, is even greater than it was between vaccinated and unvaccinated.

The majority of hospitalized severe Covid cases are happening in the U.S. in areas with large unvaccinated populations. In Indiana, where there has been a recent spike in hospitalizations, an analysis found that between 81 and 96 percent of recent Covid patients requiring care did not get a Covid vaccine, or are only partially vaccinated.

A similar study was conducted in other states nationwide, deriving the same results. In South Dakota, an analysis showed that 92 percent of hospitalizations were unvaccinated. In New Jersey, an estimated 75 percent of hospitalized Covid patients are unvaccinated.
