US Warns Russia of “Serious Consequences” Over Ukraine

Washington is committed to finding diplomatic solutions with Russia over Ukraine. Still, if diplomacy does not work, there will be “big consequences with a high cost” for Moscow, a senior US State Department official said on Friday.

“We continue to support diplomacy as a way to de-escalate the situation, but if diplomacy fails and if there is further aggression, there will be serious consequences with a high cost,” the State Department official said.

Meanwhile, a poll showed that almost half of Americans are against the US entering the war with Russia if the latter starts an invasion of Ukraine. The US Charles Koch Institute commissioned the YouGov research service poll, and Politico published its results.

28% of those surveyed answered that they were “strongly against” the war with Russia, 20% – “somewhat against”. 9% responded that they were “strongly for”, and 18% – “to some extent for”. 24% of respondents did not give a definite answer to the question.

The survey involved 1,000 US citizens. Earlier, a spokesman for the Biden administration said that the US threatens Russia in an “invasion” of Ukraine with economic sanctions, not military force.
