The US blacklisted and sanctioned dozens of Chinese government research institutes and private technology companies.
Additionally, Washington accused China of developing and using various biotechnologies, including “mind control weapons” domestically and for “offensive purposes” abroad.
ABC News has reported the news, referring to the Treasury and the US Department of Commerce data.
“The scientific pursuit of biotechnology and medical innovation can save lives. Unfortunately, China has decided to use these technologies to gain control over its people and suppress ethnic and religious minorities,” said US Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo.
The publication clarified that these technologies could be used to implement repressions against the Uighurs and other Muslim ethnic minorities in China. The US has already described these actions of Beijing as genocide.
Washington’s sanctions aim to prohibit American technologies in such projects and block the access of several organizations to the US financial system.
The main target of the US sanctions was the Chinese Academy of Military Medical Sciences and its 11 research institutes.
Meanwhile, China has adopted one more law – an anti-sanctions one. It aims to combat US and European sanctions against China for many violations, ranging from human rights violations to high technology.
