Saudi media reported that the first two planes carrying humanitarian supplies arrived from Saudi Arabia to Afghanistan. The shipments arrived through an air bridge organized by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid Center (KSRelief).
Two sides carried 1647 food baskets and 192 bags with warm clothes with a total weight of 65 tons 746 kilograms.
The Saudi authorities plan to send four more planes with similar cargo to Afghanistan soon. Thus, the weight of all aid will be over 197 tons.
In addition, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid Center is preparing to send a ground convoy of 200 trucks that will transport essential supplies to the Asian republic from neighboring Pakistan.
Currently, a humanitarian crisis is progressing in Afghanistan, expressed in an acute shortage of essential goods and a lack of funds from the state.
The situation is aggravated by the onset of the winter period and Afghanistan’s inability to purchase electricity from abroad.
According to the UN, 98% of the 38 million population of the republic systematically go hungry, 70% buy food on credit. They are in the deepest poverty, the organization said. At the same time, the cost of food, fuel, and other essential goods is growing due to their shortage.
Meanwhile, the World Food Program has provided humanitarian assistance to 15 million Afghans in 2021, including seven million in November alone. In general, the new government of the South Asian country needs about $ 220 million in monthly tranches to resolve the crisis.
