US authorities sold Iranian oil seized by the US Navy in the Arabian Sea for a total of $26.7 million, the US Department of Justice said in a statement released on Tuesday.
“Following the court’s decision, the seized oil was sold. The total amount of proceeds amounted to $26.7 million, which will be then sent to the American Fund for Assistance to Victims of Terrorism.”, – the statement says.
The volume of oil sold was around 1.1 million barrels. The Ministry of Justice did not specify when the maritime operations were carried out, which resulted in the seizure of the indicated volumes of oil.
At the same time, the department indicated that the oil was seized from four tankers bound for Venezuela.
In addition, the US Department of Justice reported that they had carried out the procedure for the alienation of the rights to the 171 surface-to-air missiles captured by the US Navy, which were transported by two ships belonging to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps for the Houthi rebels in Yemen.
Over the past year, Iran has repeatedly accused the United States of hijacking its ships.
