Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has dismissed on Friday as inflammatory, void and groundless US media report suggesting Moscow might have plans to “invade Ukrainian territory”, stressing its aim is to escalate tensions between Russia and other countries.

He pointed during the conference call with reporters that such headlines are only fueling tensions- pointlessly and groundlessly.

Peskov further assured that Moscow threatens no one adding that movements of the Russian military on the country’s own territory should not cause anyone’s concern and he slammed at the same time United States, accusing it of making a series of aggressive moves in the Black Sea.

Russia’s Ministry of Defence has previously issued statement condemning ‘the aggressive US military activity in the Black Sea region’ as a threat to regional security and strategic stability after tracking two US naval ships in the Black Sea, after which it accused Washington of screening the region as a potential theatre of war.

The Kremlin’s comment came in response to Bloomberg’s article on Thursday saying the US had warned the European Union that Russia might be weighing a “potential invasion of Ukraine,” citing multiple but unnamed people familiar with the matter.

The news media pointed that the US has raised their concerns over a possible military operation amid the tensions flare between the bloc and Moscow over migrants and energy supplies after closely monitoring the buildup of Russian forces near the border with Ukraine.

The EU has reignited regional tensions this week, accusing Belarus, which is close Russian ally, of encouraging thousands migrants fleeing war-torn parts of the world to try to cross its borders and threatening to impose sanctions.

The latest movement of Russia’s troops and tanks toward Ukraine prompted CIA Director Bill Burns to visit Moscow this month and speak to Putin by phone.

According to Bloomberg, the US based its assessments on “publicly-available evidence” without pointing to one though it is believed they’re based on information the US hasn’t yet shared with EU governments.

Several US media platforms have previously reported that Moscow had redeployed its forces closer to the border with Ukraine but Moscow refuted these reports as a fake news campaign directed against Russia.

Soon after the White House also expressed “concerns” that Kremlin is risking to make serious mistake in Ukraine though State Secretary Antony Blinken they have no “clarity into Moscow’s intentions”, which didn’t stop him from expressing concerns regarding media reports on Russia’s alleged redeploying troops.
