Vaccinated Senator Cruz Lashes Out at Big Bird for Getting Vaccinated

Vaccinated Texas Republican Senator Ted Cruz lashed out against Big Bird over the weekend for receiving a Covid vaccination.

In a strange online rant, the Senator took fire against the Sesame Street character in tweets, calling it government propaganda.

On Saturday, Big Bird tweeted that he had gotten his Covid vaccine. “My wing is feeling a little sore, but it’ll give my body an extra protective boost that keeps me and others healthy,” the tweet said.

The tweet came days after the FDA approved the Pfizer shot for children aged 5 to 11 years old, making it the youngest age group yet to receive approval for the vaccine.

Ted Cruz has admitted to getting the Covid vaccination, but seemingly does not see the irony in his outrage of other individuals receiving vaccinations.

Right wing commentators piled on the fictional character. Fox News contributor Lisa Boothe called it brainwashing, and falsely claimed children are not at risk from Covid.

Conservative Newsmax network host Steve Cortes also responded with factually incorrect statements, claiming that children are statistically not at risk, and calling the tweet from the fictional children’s character “evil.”

Children are at risk from Covid. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said that while children are at a much lower risk for severe Covid than adults, over 6 million have tested positive for the virus, and thousands within this age group have been hospitalized. Close to 200 children have died from Covid. The CDC said that children aged 5-11 account for 10.6 percent of new Covid cases.

This is not the first time that Sesame Street characters have been public health advocates. All the way back in 1972, Big Bird helped tell children “Don’t wait, vaccinate!”

Cruz came under fire recently for defending the right to allow Nazi salutes at school board meetings, claiming it was protected under the first amendment.
