Iran Boasts Successful Operation against US in Tanker Battle

Iran said that a US warship stopped an Iranian oil tanker in the Gulf of Oman and was trying to transfer fuel to its vessel. The IRGC special forces arrived at the scene of the incident by helicopter, which prevented the ship from transferring under the control of American sailors.

As reported by Tasnim agency, the Iranian military sent the tanker into the territorial waters of the republic. The US Navy tried to catch up with the ship in international waters but did not have time.

According to Iranian media, the US sailors performed a “pirate attack”, as the Iranian tanker was pursued by several US helicopters and ships.

The first nuclear deal between Iran and the US was signed in 2015. Economic sanctions were lifted from Tehran in exchange for a refusal to develop nuclear weapons. However, in 2018, US President Donald Trump pulled out of the deal and imposed new sanctions on Iran.

In response, the republic attacked US allies and used pro-Iranian militants in Iraq. In addition, the country resumed nuclear research, in violation of the previous deal.

Both countries almost began full-fledged hostilities after the US airstrike at Baghdad airport on the motorcade of General Qasem Soleimani, which led to the death of an officer. Also, Washington added the IRGC to the list of extremist organizations.

In particular, Washington’s sanctions include a ban on the export of oil from the Islamic Republic, and transactions with the US national debt.

After the withdrawal of the US military from Afghanistan, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi said that now the new Afghan authorities will be able to restore security in the state. He added that Tehran will support the brotherly country to achieve stability.

President Biden previously noted that the country wants to settle all issues with Tehran through diplomatic means. However, if Iran continues to develop nuclear weapons or attack US allies, then Washington will act differently, Biden added.
