Aeguing that President Biden’s chief medical adviser lied about research the National Institutes of Health (NIH) funded in Wuhan, Republican Senator Rand Paul called on Sunday for Anthony Fauci to be fired over a lack of judgment,
During an interview with “Axios on HBO”, Paul said that Fauci should be fired just for lack of judgment if nothing else, claiming that he’s probably never going to admit that he lied.
His comments are the latest in the feud with Fauci that has been bubbling for months after pointing last month that Fauci deserves a five-year prison sentence for lying to Congress.
Sen. Paul demand comes in the wake of Lawrence Tabak’s, the principal deputy director at the NIH, revealing of new details last week in connection with NIH grant to EcoHealth Alliance, which conducted an experiment at the Wuhan Institute of Virology, in the letter he penned to GOP Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers of of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce.
The unpublished data showed that in an unexpected result of the research, lab mice infected with one bat coronavirus became sicker than those infected with a different bat coronavirus, noting that the viruses in the experiment were genetically very distant from SARS-CoV-2.
According to Paul, the data shows that the experiment involved gain of function research and that they’re trying now to justify it by saying it was an unexpected result.
Paul’s interpretation of the letter was rejected by top health officials with NIH Director Francis Collins claiming the experiment did not include “gain of function” research.
Fauci also responded to Paul’s accusations, saying he totally disagrees with him, and claimed that the research was very strictly in the framework of “oversight of the type of research” and that he never lied or misled the Congress.
He claims it’s “molecularly impossible” for the viruses of the Wuhan experiment to turn into SARS-CoV-2 since they were molecularly distant enough that they could never become SARS-CoV-2 no matter what you did to them.
Meanwhile, the hashtag #ArrestFauci was trending on Twitter Sunday afternoon in response to the controversies surrounding Fauci, with the latest being the report that he spent hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars on cruel testing on dogs before ultimately killing them.
