The Department of Public Health in California said on Thursday that it would impose a mandate for healthcare workers to get fully vaccinated by the end of September, Fox News informed.
The department argued that the reason behind this mandate is the necessary response to the surge in Covid-19 hospitalizations and ICU patients because of the new delta variant which is more contagious.
The mandate would cover the staff of hospitals, nursing homes, as well as some other healthcare facilities.
Tomás J. Aragón, the CDPH Director and Public Health Officer said that it is important to protect the more vulnerable patients in the wake of a surge of Covid-19 cases due to the more contagious delta variant.
Aragón also stated that the new policy is also aimed to protect the healthcare workers, as vaccines are the way for ending the pandemic.
