House Democrats had pushed an amendment Tuesday aimed at making visas available to people who were rejected or denied entry in the United States due to the Trump administration’s travel ban, Fox News informed.
The amendment of the funding legislation for Homeland Security for the Fiscal Year 2022, was approved by a voice vote in the Appropriations Committee after it was introduced by New York Democratic Representatives Grace Meng and Adriano Espaillat, as well as Mark Pocan from Wisconsin.
The amendment is set to reinstate the diversity lottery visas to the people who were affected by the travel restrictions during Trump’s presidency.
The Diversity Immigrant Visa Program is a mechanism that provides 50,000 visas annually for countries that have low immigration rates.
