Trump Organization Claims Indictment Is An Attempt to ‘Smear’ The Ex President

An indictment against one of the Trump Organization’s long-serving workers was rejected by the Trump Organization as a political attempt to smear former President Donald Trump.

On Thursday morning, the corporation’s chief financial officer, Allan Weisselberg, confessed to the Manhattan district attorney’s office and is likely to be charged later that day. The allegations in the indictment, which was delivered by a grand jury on Wednesday, have not been made public, although they are likely to be connected to tax evasion and fringe benefits enjoyed by Weisselberg.

The Trump Organization stated in a press release that Weisselberg was being used as a puppet in Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance’s efforts to defame Trump, Newsweek reports.

For over two years, Vance has been digging into the Trump Organization, seeking for irregularities in the company’s operations. New York Attorney General Letitia James stated in May that a state civil investigation had morphed into a criminal investigation, and that state officials were assisting Vance with his probe.

The indictment was the product of 300 hours of testimonials at nine separate federal agencies, Cohen said on Twitter.

Weisselberg was described by the Trump Organization as a “loving and dedicated husband,” as well as a “father and grandpa” who worked for the company for almost 50 years. Weisselberg’s legal representatives, Mary Mulligan and Bryan Skarlatos, told CNN that he intends to plead not guilty to the allegations and that he will “fight these charges in court.”

Despite the fact that the Trump Organization is also under investigation, the former president is not directly involved in the case.
