Jen Psaki, the press secretary of the White House on Monday, stood in defense of Gwen Berry, a US track and field star who turned her back on the US flag, Fox News informed.
The White House argued that Berry’s move was a sign of a peaceful protest that US citizens have not lived to their highest ideals.
The track and field star, who is 31, ended up on the third place in the hammer throw amid the US Olympic trials and earned a spot in the team. Once the National Anthem started playing, Berry turned from the flag.
Fox News’ Peter Doocy asked Psaki if US President Joe Biden thinks that this kind of behavior is appropriate for someone who has hopes in representing the USA team.
Berry has previously displayed similar type of behavior at the 2019 Pan American Games where she raised a fist during the medal ceremony.
