Prosecutors in New York have given the lawyers of former President Donald Trump until Monday afternoon to make a case for why the Trump Organization should not be prosecuted, The Washington Post reports.
The Manhattan district attorney’s office was rumored last week to be exploring criminal charges against the Trump Organization as a whole, as well as CEO Allen Weisselberg. According to the New York Times, Trump’s lawyers have asked prosecutors from the district attorney’s office not to bring charges against the firm.
The Trump Organization’s representatives now have until Monday to make a case for why the charges should not be brought, according to two individuals close to the situation.
Last month, Trump slammed state and local prosecutors, calling the probe the “greatest political witch hunt in US history.”
