On Sunday, three Republican senators said they welcomed President Biden’s clarified statements on an infrastructure plan, in which he pulled back an earlier statement in which he indicated he would consider signing a bipartisan bill provided a bigger reconciliation package was also enacted.
Senators from both parties indicated that they would accept Biden’s amended remarks from the day before, in which the president stated the “impression” that he would veto a bipartisan measure was “absolutely not my goal.”
GOP legislators have stated that they reject more infrastructure spending in addition to the tax hikes that would be included in a future measure.
On Saturday, Biden issued a statement clarifying that the “impression” that he would veto the bipartisan measure was “absolutely not my goal.”
Biden said on Thursday that a bipartisan group of senators had reached an agreement with the White House on infrastructure that includes $579 billion in extra investment over five years, for a total of $973 billion over five years and just over $1.2 trillion over eight years.
