Energy Department Seeks $201 Million from Congress Aimed at Cybersecurity Threats

The Energy Department is seeking from Congress an amount of $201 milling in the budget request for 2022, aimed at addressing digital weaknesses after a surge in the radical cyber attacks, CNBC informed.

The request, which has increased from the amount of $157 million for the fiscal year 2021, is set to aid in boosting the agency’s cybersecurity efforts to address some vulnerabilities in the tech infrastructure and the supply chain.

Jennifer Granholm, the Secretary of Energy spoke on Thursday before the Senate Armed Services panel that the energy department needs the additional funding for upgrading their software framework, employ more cybersecurity experts and establish new standards and cyber policies.
