Representative Elise Stefanik and Senator Steven Daines are planning to push a legislation that will force Alejandro Mayorkas, the Homeland Security Secretary to start the process of opening the US-Canada border, Fox News informed.
The news come after about a year of closure of the border due to the Covid-19 pandemic and reduced international travel.
The act titled Restoring Northern Border Travel Act arrives as both countries mark a steep drop in Covid-19 cases and an increased rate of vaccinations. The act also follows months of advocating from Daines and Stefanik, but also other Congress members who come from northern states, to reopen the border which is economically important.
