Capitol Hill Republicans are retorting to news that transgender military veterans can soon receive transition surgeries through VA (Veterans Affairs) health care coverage, Fox News informed.
Denis McDonough, the VA Secretary revealed on Saturday that the department has taken the initial steps, of what is set to be very long process, towards providing surgeries for gender transition by the veteran network.
During a Pride in Orlando McDonough said that these changes are made not only because they are the right thing to do, but also because these changes can save many lives.
Although the VA secretary claimed that the changes will make the department a welcoming place for all the veterans, this move has incited frustration in the GOP lawmakers.
Representative Mike Bost, who is a Ranking Member of House Veterans’ Affairs Committee said that president Biden and the Secretary McDonough should be much more focused on helping veterans who are suffering from the wars, and less focused on winning culture wars.
