US President Biden on Thursday has put his signature on a legislation that establishes Juneteenth, the date that commemorates end of slavery in the US, as a federal-level holiday, CNBC informed.
Biden said signing this legislation was one of the greatest honors in his time as president.
Vice President Kamala Harris, who also attended the signing event in the White House said that the people of America have come far and that have far to go, but that the signing is a day to celebrate.
Biden addressed the East Room crowd saying that great nations do not ignore their history’s painful moments, but embrace them.
