Russian Federation’s embassy in Washington has warned U.S. on Friday the that the upcoming summit between the leaders of the two countries, Vladimir Putin and Joe Biden could be overshadowed by the presence of U.S. nuclear-capable warplanes at recent NATO exercises.
The envoys slammed the maneuvers as yet another provocation and a serious escalation, responding to news that US Air Force B-52H Stratofortress bombers had flown over the Baltic Sea on several occasions earlier this week.
Russian officials urged Washington to radically reconsider its approach to security on the continent and stop dangerous activity in the vicinity of Russia’s borders, underlying that saber-rattling is fueling tensions in Europe and darkens the atmosphere in anticipation of the Russia-U.S. summit meetings.
U.S. Air Force General Jeff Harrigian defended the move, saying that the safety and security the Baltic and Nordic allies of the US is an enduring priority, pointing that exercises are critical to ensuring highest standard of support.
