US, Germany Discuss “Nord Stream 2” Pipeline

U.S. President Joe Biden’s national security adviser, Jake Sullivan, and German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s foreign policy and security adviser, Jan Hecker, discussed Russia’s second export pipeline across the Baltic Sea, Nord Stream 2, and a series of other regional and global issues, the White House said.

“Experts from both governments have discussed the Nord Stream 2 pipeline, as well as US concerns about the risks it poses to Ukraine and Europe’s energy security,” the US administration said in a statement.

In addition, the two sides also discussed the forthcoming G-7 summit and NATO summit, the importance of securing Europe’s future energy, a collective effort to exchange COVID-19 vaccines, joint coordination of cybersecurity response to ransomware.

According to the White House, Washington and Berlin also discussed a wide-range of foreign policy priorities, including Russia, Ukraine, Iran, and the Western Balkans.
