U.S Administration is preparing to address the rise in acts of anti-Asian bias and violence in the United States with the U.S. President Joe Biden planning to sign an executive order on Friday, the White House said as quoted by U.S. News.
The order is to establish the White House Initiative on Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders, expand language access and strengthen economic security and opportunity for those communities, the statement says.
People of Asian descent in the U.S. have been subjected to increasing violence throughout the U.S. history, but most notably after COVID-19 appeared to emerge from China, with certain political leaders’ xenophobic rhetoric leading to a tragic spike in acts of anti-Asian bias, violence and xenophobia.
The initiative would also work to help ease the health inequities facing many native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders and other Asian-Americans during the pandemic.
