Moon Jae-in Might Ask Biden’s Help on Covid Vaccines

Moon Jae-in, the President of South Korea could ask Joe Biden on the meeting in Washington scheduled for Friday to help his country secure COVID-19 vaccines, a foreign policy expert claims, CNBC informed.

According to Victor Cha, who is a professor and vice dean of the Georgetown University, South Korea has put its main focus on a vaccine diplomacy.

The scheduled meeting with Moon will be the second time Biden meets a country leader, after he met with Yoshihide Suga, the Prime Minister of Japan in Washington last month.

Moon is currently under a lot of pressure to deliver vaccines, because the surge in cases with Covid in South Korea caused an extension of the social distancing guidelines. According to his statements, Moon vowed that the country would reach herd immunity by November, but the deficit of the vaccines worked against his vow. The herd immunity is reached when people have either received vaccines or were infected with the virus, stopping it from an intense spread.
