Ocasio-Cortez Leads Effort to Block $735 Million Weapons Sale to Israel

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the New York Democrat from the progressives line, revealed a resolution on Wednesday aimed at blocking the $735 Million sale of weapons to Israel, Fox News reported.

Ocasio-Cortez was also joined by Rep. Mark Pocan and the only Palestinian-American Rep. Rashida Tlaib.

Her resolution is aimed at blocking the JDAMS or the Joint Direct Attack Munitions, a kit that helps ordinary bombs be converted to a more precise rockets. The technology is believed to be used in the recent fighting between Palestine and Israel.

Ocasio Cortez argued that billions of dollars in arms were sold to Israel in the last decades, and they were never required to respect Palestinian rights, adding that with this action US is contributing to the deaths and displacements of millions.

US President Joe Biden called on both sides to halt the operations and pave the path to a ceasefire, following 10 days of fighting.

Several days before the conflict started, Biden administration passed the weapons sale that Democrats insisted to be postponed.

Rashida Tlaib argued that the approval of this sale without a clear attempt to use it as a guarantee for a cease-fire, only reveals that US does not have interest in peace and it does not care for Palestinians. She added that supporting human rights and wanting peace on Earth cannot go hand in hand with supporting the Netanyahu’s regime.
